Note: Currently Vietnam visa longer than 3 months for Canadians is for special purposes only and must prove very complicated documents. For tourists, the Vietnamese immigration department only issue a visa for up to 3 months.

Canadian citizens can directly visit the Vietnamese embassy/ consulate in Canada to apply for a visa or apply an online visa.

To apply for a Vietnam tourist visa at the Vietnamese embassy/ consulate in Canada, you need to prepare some of the following documents:

  • Visa application form (available at embassy and consulate)
  • Two photos 3×4 cm
  • Original passport
  • Round-trip air ticket
  • Hotel booking
  • Vietnam travel itinerary

Visa processing time is about 5-7 working days. You should apply for a visa at least 10 days earlier than the departure date.

b/ Apply for an online visa

Vietnam travel agencies now receive and process visa online applications very quickly. It usually takes about 2 business days to receive the visa result via email after successful online registration.

After receiving your visa application, the embassy officer will give you an appointment to get the results. Normally, Vietnam visa is quite easy to pass. You just need to go to the consulate to get your passport and visa back by the appointment date. It takes about a half day to submit and 2 hours to get the results.

Online visa will have 2 types for you to choose from:
