Vietnam Opens Borders for Tourism from March 15, 2022 | Vietnam Resumes Visa Application 2022

Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam – Mr. Vu Duc Dam has agreed to the proposal to reopen tourism to welcome international tourists from March 15, 2022.

After 2 years of closing borders and stopping issuing tourist visas to international visitors because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnamese government has decided to reopen international tourism activities from mid of March 2022. Accordingly, Vietnam will start to re-issue tourist visas to foreign visitors and reopen the tourism industry from March 15, 2022.

International tourists when coming to Vietnam will not have to register for a package tour like in the previous pilot opening period, only need to fully meet the regulations of the Ministry of Health on Covid-19 prevention.

Specifically, international tourists when coming to Vietnam must have certificate of having received at least 2 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine as prescribed by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam. Additionally, travelers must have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 before boarding within 24 hours for rapid testing and 72 hours for RT-PCR.

Visitors must install at least one health management application as prescribed by Vietnamese professional agencies and turn it on continuously during their stay in Vietnam.

Regulations on testing and quarantine when entering Vietnam from March 2022:

For international passengers entering via air, only those with suspected symptoms must undergo rapid testing at the airport, the rest can return to their pre-registered accommodation.

At the accommodation, visitors will self-isolate for 24 hours and perform rapid or RT-PCR tests, continue medical monitoring within 14 days according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health, strictly implement 5K policy during travel period in Vietnam.

International visitors entering via land are tested at the border gate right before entering.

Regulations on granting entry visa to Vietnam for foreign visitors from March 2022:

Regarding the issuance of entry visas, Vietnam is expected to restore all visa policies for international visitors before the time of pandemic, including:

  • Unilateral and bilateral visa exemption for countries as before Covid-19
  • Re-issuance of e-visas for 82 countries and territories
  • Allow visitors to apply for visa on arrival as before Covid-19

All restrictions on visa issuance will be lifted and international visitors can apply visa to enter Vietnam as before Covid-19.
