1/ Which border gates for border crossing from Cambodia to Vietnam

The first and also the longest border crossing between the two countries is Ba Vet (Cambodia) – Moc Bai (Vietnam). It is on the main bus route between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City, thus it is considered as the most popular and convenient border crossing.

These below is all 5 international border crossings between Cambodia and Vietnam:

  • Bavet – Moc Bai: This was the first crossing between Vietnam and Cambodia to open to foreign visitors and it remains easily the most popular. Daily buses are regularly operated from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh city and vice versa.
  • Trapeang Phlong – Xa Mat
  • Phnom Den – Tinh Bien: Midway between Ha Tien and Chau Doc, this crossing is open to foreign visitors. The closest town on the Khmer side is Kampot or Takeo but both are a couple of hours away.
  • Prek Chak / Xa Xia: The Cambodia/Vietnam coastal border crossing is open and travelers with a valid Vietnam visa can enter Vietnam at the Prek Chak / Xa Xia crossing a twenty minute from Kep. Other name of Xa Xia border in Vietnam side is “Ha Tien Landport”
  • Kaam Samnor / Ving Xuong: This very popular river crossing links Phnom Penh in Cambodia with the Vietnam town of Chau Doc. Both slow and fast boat services are available. Other name of Vinh Xuong border gate is “Song Tien Landport”.

3/ Visa for entering Vietnam from Cambodia through Bavet – Moc Bai checkpoint

No matter which border gate you choose to do the border crossing, visa need to be well preapared. When you do the border crossing from Cambodia to Vietnam through Bavet – Moc Bai checkpoint, you should know “do you need visa or not?” and “what types of visa are available for you?”. If not, you can be refused to enter Vietnam when you reach the border.

3.1/ Vietnam visa exemption through Bavet – Moc Bai checkpoint

There are some passports which you can enter Vietnam without visa through Bavet – Moc Bai border crossing:

– 30 days free visa: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan

– 21 days free visa: Philippines

– 14 days free visa: Myanmar, Brunei

– 15 days free visa: South Korea, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belarus (a gap of at least 30 days between each free visa entry is required)

3.2/ Visa on arrival for visitors entering Vietnam through Bavet – Moc Bai checkpoint

Visas on arrival are not available at Cambodia – Vietnam border crossings, because Vietnam visa on arrival is getting at Vietnamese international airport only (such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Danang airports, etc.)

However, electronic visa is valid for crossing from Cambodia into Vietnam, whether by bus, motor bike via land border checkpoints or by sea on a cruise.

3.3/ E-visa for visitors entering Vietnam through Bavet – Moc Bai checkpoint

Vietnam E-visa is one of several visa types offered by the Vietnam Immigration Department to foreigners entering the country. The E-visa is valid for 90 days, single or multiple entry. It requires three working days to process. Until 2024, Vietnam E-visa is available to nationals of all countries.

This E-visa is accepted to use when entering Vietnam through Moc Bai checkpoint.

How to Apply Vietnam e-Visa:

Step 1: Prepare the required materials:

  • A digital photo in .jpg format with white background, without glasses
  • Scan or picture in .jpg format of your passport data page (Passport valid for at least six months)

Step 2: Click this link to access the visa application page. Fill out all required information.

Step 3: Upload your passport and photo then submit the form.

Step 4: Within three working days, you will receive your E-visa PDF file via email. Download and print out the E-visa.

When you arrive at Moc Bai border gate, you just need to show your passport + this E-visa, then the immigration staff will paste a small stamp onto your passport.
