3/ Under what circumstances can French people apply for a temporary residence card in Vietnam?

French nationals, if falling into the following cases, may apply for a Vietnamese temporary residence card:

– Experts, workers, directors, managers, businessmen who are working in Vietnam. In case of having a Vietnamese work permit, it must be valid at least 12 months at the time of applying for a temporary residence card. This case will be considered for granting temporary residence card type “working”.

– Foreigners who are members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations affiliated to the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam and their spouses, children under 18 years of age, housemaids who are accompanied by the term of office, are granted temporary residence card with symbol NG3.

– Father, mother, wife, husband, children of a person who has a temporary residence card or of a Vietnamese. This case will be considered for granting temporary residence card type “relative”.

– Investors are investing in Vietnam with required capital in accordance with the current law. This case will be considered for granting temporary residence card type “investment”.

 4/ Required documents to apply for a Vietnam temporary residence card for French citizens

French nationals, when applying for a Vietnam temporary residence card, need to prepare the following documents:

  • The written request for temporary residence card (Form NA6 for agencies or organizations; NA7 for individuals)
  • Information form for temporary residence card with 3cm x 4cm photo (Form NA8)
  • Copy of valid passport and visa (bring the original for comparison);
  • 02 photos 3 * 4cm (01 photo attached to the Information Sheet, 01 photo for separate file)
  • 01 copy of the business registration certificate of the legal person of the guaranteeing agency, organization or enterprise.

Depending on the circumstances, one of the following is required:

  • Investment certificate or business registration certificate
  • The license to establish the company’s representative office or branch
  • Certificate of members of the Board of Directors
  • Work permit
  • Birth certificate, marriage certificate, household registration book, etc. if applying for a temporary residence card for spouse, children, etc. who are French
  • Declaration of temporary residence or Certificate of temporary residence in the locality with the seal of the Commune Police.

Note: Consular legalization and notarized translation into Vietnamese are required for all documents in foreign languages.

5/ Procedures to apply for a Vietnam temporary residence card for French citizens

Step 1: Prepare documents in accordance with the law.

Application time: Morning, Monday to Saturday (excluding holidays).

After that, the officer receiving the application will check the legality and content of the application:

  • If the application is enough and valid, the officer will print and give a receipt to get the results.
  • If not enough documents, the officer instructs to complete the documents.

Step 3: Get results

You present the receipt, identity card or passport to the officer to check and compare, if your temporary residence card is approved, the officer will ask you to pay the fee and hand over the temporary residence card.

7/ Validity of Vietnam temporary residence card for French citizens

– The validity of the Vietnam temporary residence card is at least 30 days shorter than the expiry date of the passport.

– Temporary residence cards with symbols NG3, LV1, LV2, ĐT and DH have a validity period not exceeding 05 years.

Temporary residence cards with symbols NN1, NN2, TT are valid for no more than 03 years.

– LD and PV1 temporary residence card valid for no more than 02 years.

– Expired temporary residence card is considered for granting a new card.
