Vietnam Temporary Residence Card For Hong Kong Passport Holders 2023 – Procedures To Apply Vietnam TRC For Hong Kong Citizens

Hong Kong people living and working in Vietnam may be granted a temporary residence card. However, depending on the case and applicants, the temporary residence card can be issued for different validations, and also requires different documents to be prepared. Below are detailed information about a temporary residence card for Hong Kong citizens in Vietnam.

1/ Vietnam temporary residence card for Hong Kong nationals

Hong Kong citizens who want to temporarily reside and work in Vietnam need to apply for a temporary residence card. The temporary resident card (TRC) can be seen as a type of long-term visa.

However, unlike Visa, temporary residence cards have a longer duration, usually issued for a period of 1 year to 5 years. Hong Kong people holding TRC cards will be exempt from visas and can enter and exit multiple times according to business requirements within the duration of the card, thus saving time and money.

In addition, the holders of the temporary residence card can also sponsor another temporary residence card with the same duration for their family member.

2/ In which cases Hong Kong people can apply for a Vietnam temporary residence card?

• Hong Kong people who are members of the Board of Directors of a joint stock company.
• Hong Kong people who are a member of a limited liability company with two or more members.
• Accompanying relatives include (father, mother, wife, husband, children) of the TRC holder or of a Vietnamese citizen.
• Hong Kong lawyers have been licensed by the Ministry of Justice to practice law in Vietnam in accordance with the law.
• Hong Kong people are the owner of a one-member limited liability company (except for an authorized representative).
• Hong Kong people with work permits are working in different types of businesses, representative offices of foreign companies.
• Experts, students, trainees, who are working and studying under the national programs and projects signed between ministries and branches approved by the Government.

3/ The validity period of Vietnam temporary residence card for Hong Kong people

Currently, Hong Kong residents can apply for different types of temporary residence cards. Depending on the card, the validity will also vary:

• Temporary residence cards with the symbols LD and PV1 are valid for no more than 02 years.
• Temporary residence cards with symbols NN1, NN2, TT are valid for no more than 03 years.
• Temporary residence cards with symbols NG3, LV1, LV2, ĐT and DH have a validity period not exceeding 05 years.
• The temporary residence card validity period is at least 30 days shorter than the expiry date of the passport.

4/ Required documents for applying Vietnam temporary residence card for Hong Kong people

For Hong Kong workers who have been granted a work permit, the documents includes:

• Copy of Tax Registration Certificate.
• Copy of seal sample registration certificate.
• Copy of work permit valid for 1 year or more.
• Copy of Certificate of temporary residence certified by local ward police.
• Copy of Business Registration Certificate or other equivalent documents.
• 01 copy of passport, valid visa, immigration stamp (enclosed with the original for comparison).
• 04 photos 3 × 4 cm, bare head, taken from the front, with clear face, clear ears, no colored glasses, photos taken within 6 months.

For Hong Kong people who have not granted a work permit:

• Copy of Tax Registration Certificate.
• Copy of seal sample registration certificate.
• Copy of Certificate of temporary residence certified by local ward police.
• Copy of Proof of not belong to granting work permit subject.
• Copy of Investment Certificate or other equivalent documents.
• 01 photocopy of passport, valid visa, immigration stamp. (attach the original for comparison)
• 04 photos 3 × 4 cm, bare head, taken from the front, with clear face, clear ears, no colored glasses, photos taken within 6 months.

For relatives:

• Copy of documents proving the purpose of applying for temporary residence certification.
• Copy of Certificate of temporary residence certified by local ward police.
• 01 photocopy of passport, valid visa, immigration stamp. (Attach the original for comparison)
• 04 photo 3 × 4 cm, bare head, taken from the front, with clear face, clear ears, no colored glasses, photos taken within 6 months.
• Depending on each specific case, it is required to provide a legalized copy and translation into Vietnamese of the Marriage Registration Certificate, the Birth Certificate, the Family Relationship Certificate, etc.

5/ Procedures for granting Vietnam temporary residence card for Hong Kong people

After preparing all the documents, Hong Kong passport holders can go directly to the immigration office to apply for a temporary residence card (or through travel agents). After receiving all the documents, the Immigration Department will process and within about 14 days, the temporary residence card will be approved. After obtaining a temporary residence card, Hong Kong people can stay in Vietnam without having to extend or exit.
