This post is guidance for applying entry permit and visa approval letter for those who want to come to Vietnam during pandemic period. The information is updated in November 2020 and will be continuously updated according to Vietnam immigration law.
Due to Covid-19, Vietnam borders are closed from March 15th 2020. All foreigners (included those who already had visa, those who had APEC card and visa exemption cases) cannot enter Vietnam in this period. As a result, there is no way to come to Vietnam for any purpose.
However, Vietnam government has opened again the commercial flights between Vietnam and some countries which well controls the pandemic from September 2020. And the people departing from these countries can apply the business visa to come to Vietnam for working.
Please note that, entry permit and visa are currently opened only for experts, businessmen, high-tech workers, managers who are sponsored by a company in Vietnam.
In order to enter Vietnam in pandemic period, the applicants must apply two types of documents: “entry permit” from provincial People’s Committee and “visa approval letter” from Vietnam immigration department. They are not only used for entering Vietnam on the entry date, but also are required when booking air ticket and quarantine hotel. The whole process may take 30 – 35 days, so the applicants must contact visa agency in Vietnam to process these documents ASAP.
The visa agency will contact the provincial People’s Committee where the sponsor company is located in and submit the “entry permit”. Right after the entry permit is approved, the visa agency will continue to contact immigration department and submit related documents to get “visa approval letter”. The required documents and the fee for applying entry permit and visa approval letter depend on the regulation of the province where the sponsor company is located in, the Vietnam airport which the applicant fly into, and nationality of the applicant. However, the applicants normally need to provide passport photo and flight details only, and the visa agency will ask the sponsor company to sign and seal the application form.
After getting the “entry permit” and “visa approval letter”, the applicants can book air ticket, quarantine hotel, airport transfer service, and take the virus test before flying. After arriving at the airport, the visitors will be tested virus again, and will be transferred to quarantine hotel booked before, and take 14-day quarantine.
